October 4, 2011 - Instructions for Loving

I guess this is why they called him "The King." Either that or because he used to dress a lot like The Burger King.

September 9, 2011 - Something in the Way This Song...

I hate paying tribute to George Harrison by posting a video of someone else singing his song, buuuuutttt, I don't hate it that much. To be fair, nearly everyone has covered this song from Elvis to Sinatra to your next-door neighbor, so at least I chose a fellow Beatle and a worthy guitarist, right?

September 9, 2011 - A Grammy For Oscar?

No, I didn't forget about you today, and to prove it, here is a video that is educational and entertaining at the same time. That's right, it's from Sesame Street, and it's enough to cheer up, oh, I don't know, a random green fellow who happens to live in a garbage can...

September 8, 2011 - How To Be Really Creepy

People often ask me, "Konway, what's the key to winning a women's heart?" I often say that there is one thing as I hold up an index finger, then I walk away smiling. Well, your long wait to find out that one thing is finally over. It's really simple, just send them a copy of this video and wait...for the police to show up at your door with a restraining order.

September 8, 2011 - I Have Sung About The Mountain Top!

I've never heard of this guy before, but he pretty much looks like a guy you might see on some type of religious service on your television on Sunday morning. However, don't let that fool you, the dude can sing. Strangely enough, the song, dedicated to Martin Luther King Jr., was actually written by the young lady in the video. You may have heard it more recently covered by some slightly more prominent artists. Either way, this version should inspire you to go mountain-climbing, or at least go right up by the mountain?

September 2, 2011 - There's A Hole In His Career

So, it kind of took me a while to figure this out, but I knew when I heard this Michael Franti guy blowing up on the radio this past year that he sounded familiar. Kinda. You see, back in the 90's, Franti was either in a group called Spearhead or went by the name Spearhead, and he made much, uhhhh, darker, tunes than the radio-friendly Sounds of Sunshine that he currently makes. Don't believe me? Take a look for yourself.
As a bonus, the first video is a live performance on something called The Jon Stewart Show from 1995.

August 18, 2011 - Rappin 'Bout Practice?

Who knew that Allen Iverson complained about practice with so much rhythm. This song is hot, but it makes me want to quit practicing altogether.

August 16, 2011 - Mary Would Be Proud

John Fogerty wrote this song and Credence Clearwater originally performed it, but I'm guessing that he didn't know that he really wrote the song for Tina Turner and her more abusive half. As far as I can tell, this song works just as well as a cup of coffee. Try it yourself.

August 8, 2011 - Yeah + Yeah + Yeah

Okay, if Arnold doesn't help you get over the global economic woes, then surely a dance hit from Ke$ha isn't going to do the trick. Which is why I am enlisting the help of none-other than (alleged?) Rihanna-beater, Today-Show-set-trasher, non-stop-dance-machine Chris Brown.
So try to ignore the fact that your 401(k) has declined 10% or so in the past week while also ignoring Mr. Brown's questionable character, and put your hands in the air, and say "Yeah," oh, I don't know, how about three times?

July 30, 2011 - Bizarre Indeed

I watch this video. I remember the times when it was popular. I notice it only has a little over 500,000 views on YouTube. I try to figure out if the song has a deeper meaning.
No matter what I do, I just keep coming to the same conclusion: "How bizarre."
So, yeah, I would argue this is the most perfectly named song of all-time.

July 25, 2011 - Shoulda Gone to Rehab...

Somewhat lost in Amy Winehouse's sudden, if not-so-unexpected death is the fact that she was an incredibly talented singer. If you thought she was a drug addict in desperate need of a makeover, well, she was a drug addict in desperate need of a makeover who could really sing. Check out this and other videos if you don't believe me.

July 22, 2011 - The Man in Denim

Does anyone ever find it a little strange that one of the most popular children's characters of all time is a fuzzy green creature that spends most of his time in a garbage can, and rarely, if ever, says anything remotely positive? Nah, me neither. Oscar seems like a pretty cool dude. (Especially compared to Big Bird, whose appeal I will never truly understand.) However, the Man In Black, or in this case, the Man in the Canadian Tuxedo, is one fella whose coolness is undeniable. Seriously, have you ever seen anyone pull off a denim shirt quite like that? Mr. Johnny Cash is also probably the only popular musician who could consistently turn children's songs into popular music. Of course, that was when he wasn't busy writing songs about fire or prison...

July 21, 2011 - Too Much For Me

Today, we bring you a little musical relief on what is most likely an oppressively hot day in your neighborhood. It comes from the great Stevie Wonder. Obviously, we all know and love Stevie Wonder. Now maybe you've heard his entire catalog, and you are familiar with this song...but, I've never heard this song before. I have no idea what it is. I can't understand half the lyrics.
But, I love it. Stevie loves it. The slightly creepy old guy who comes in at the end and calls him "Stevelin" loves it. It comes at arguably the peak of Stevelin's career, right before he released his classic album "Innervisions." It's just Stevie in some kind of abandoned studio, just sporting a ridiculously tight brown turtleneck and effortlessly dropping another classic on your head. To be honest though, one of my favorite parts of the video is the backup singers. It's always nice to hear really good background singers at just the right level. Of course, the real star is Stevie, and when he starts talking about flying somewhere on a unicorn to find the visions in his mind, well, I don't know what to say about that part actually.
