June 21, 2010 - Graeme Wants S'more!

graeme mcdowell us open
Hey buddy, this was supposed to be Tiger's big day, or Phil's, or hell, even some guy named Dustin Johnson's. Guys from Northern Ireland aren't supposed to win the United States Open on Father's Day. That's reserved for Americans trained from an extremely young age by drill sergeant fathers looking for a payday. Irish guys are supposed to just stay in the pub, play some links golf every now and then, and maybe drink a few Guinness...but, you gotta love that accent, so we'll let it slide this time.
new zealand ties italy
I watched the start of this game on ESPN, and it opened with the awesome British announcer saying "This is a game that New Zealand can't win…right?" Well, they didn't win, but the longest shot in the field did tie the defending World Cup champions, and earned its 2nd point in the tournament. Of course, this just means that even the craziest Cinderella stories can become a little more anti-climactic with all these ties in soccer...although, I suppose there is no more fitting outcome on Father's Day than a tie, right?
china unchains yuan
China Presents: The Yuan, Unchained! Live in Concert from Shanghai! Alright, alright, calm down, it's not going down exactly like that, but the Chinese have decided to make their currency more flexible by "unchaining" it from the US dollar after nearly 2 years, and letting it fluctuate with the markets. Apparently, they have not been paying even the slightest attention to what's been going on out there in the economy the past 2 years.
gaza blockade to be eased
Seeing as most of the world generally seems to disapprove of Israel's blockade of the Gaza strip that leads to what some might consider rather inhumane living conditions for the Palestinians occupying the region, it's probably not a bad idea to ease the blockade a little. Given that the rest of the world really hated what they did to that flotilla a couple weeks ago, they really had no choice. You mess with the flotilla, you get...uh, the horns?
father's day
Yes, it was indeed a big day for guys like former NFL star Travis Henry and about half of everyone who has ever appeared on a paternity test edition of the Maury Povich show yesterday, as people across the world celebrated Father's Day. However, it was just a really awkward day for people like Melissa Etheridge and other lesbian parents.

french soccer players revolt
Typical French nonsense going on with the country's World Cup squad. Just guessing, but I assume this would be a ,much different situation if this year's team was any good to begin with.
florida marlins vuvuzuelas
Vuvuzuelas + soccer = a mediocre idea at best. Vuvuzuelas + baseball + half-empty stadium = not a good idea at all.
anti-rape condom with teeth
This actually sounds like a great idea to me…as long as it doesn't get in the hands of a woman scorned. Hell hath no fury…
lady gaga yankees
Lady Gaga has caused trouble at her second baseball game at her second baseball stadium in New York within a one month period, which is impressive, because you really gotta act like a total idiot to stand out in New York.
canada economy envy
Apparently, there are now three things that Canada does well: maple syrup, hockey, and economics. Look out…

Teddy Grahams...shockingly, they still exist. Although, I can't promise you that this isn't a vintage box from the early 1990's. Buyer BEWARE!

June 19-20, 2010 - Weekend Knowledge: Fresh for Dad

cost of raising kids
Do you know how much it costs to properly raise a child? I didn't think so. Happy Father's Day!
annoying restaurant habits
I'm still waiting for the day when all human waitstaff is replaced by robots.
rasheed wallace refs confrontation
Rasheed Wallace might be at the end of his long NBA career, and I'm sure he wanted to ask these refs how they got their jobs, and where he could apply.
$20,000 in pringles can smuggled
I know some people who would open up a can of pringles, find $20,000, and be disappointed.
top political gaffes of 2010
Really, making gaffes is a huge part of politics, so I guess if you are on this list, you are one hell of a politician.
golden state warriors new logo
Instantly hailed as one of the top 5 logos in the league by one blogger, this logo should do little to make the Warriors a top 25 team in the league, unfortunately.
albert haynesworth teammates hate him
He makes $100 million, doesn't come to practice, and once stomped on a guy's face with cleats on. What's not to like?
japanese twitter huge hit
Unsurprisingly, Twitter is a hit in Japan, where they call it "mumbling." Still not as popular as karaoke, though.
political fathers day cards
These cards are not real, but that sure would be humorous if they were.
common phobias
I'm not afraid of much...except for everything mentioned in this article. Read it...if you dare.

Still looking for that perfect gift for Dad? Well, it doesn't exist, so just go with that t-shirt that he'll wear for a few minutes, then you'll never see again!

June 18, 2010 - Ko-Be'in All They Can Be

lakers nba champion
As I'm sure many expected, the Lakers held homecourt advantage in the final 2 games of the NBA Finals, and repeated as NBA champions by prevailing in what I am sure is one of the ugliest game 7's of any playoff series ever played. Of course, low-scoring doesn't necessarily mean uninteresting, otherwise how could soccer be the most popular sport in the world?
mexico beats france
It was a nightmare matchup for the Tea Party here in the U.S., but considering our relatively large Mexican population and the widespread disdain for most things French that don't involve toast, kisses or fries, Americans have to be pretty excited with yesterday's big upset in South Africa, as Mexico dominated the French 2-0 to move dangerously close to advancing to Round 2. France had little to say, but blamed the loss on "le ball."
bp shakedown
While most Congressman bombarded BP's CEO with questions, criticism and other anger-fueled rhetoric yesterday, one Republican representative from Texas felt that there was only one way to address the man in charge of the company spilling all that oil into our oceans and ruining American livelihoods in exchange for a multi-multi-million dollar bonus: with an apology. It really just reminds you how easy it is to get elected to the House of Representatives these days.
spending bill roadblocks
Wait, what's this, there's other stuff going on in Washington still? No, no, hold on, it's business as usual, as Republicans thwarted another Democrat attempt at spending and tax bills. It's good to know that even when we don't hear about it 100 times a day, it's still going on.
utah firing squad execution
Despite a last-minute appeal, the state of Utah executed a convicted killer last evening just after midnight by firing squad. Apparently, since the people he killed were not awarded any type of appeal, the courts and the governor of Utah didn't think this guy should get one either.

religious fanatics kill soccer dad
Maybe if this family had been able to watch their religious program, they would have realized that it was not a good idea to kill their own father with their bare hands? Oh, cruel, cruel irony.
fired for being too hot update
Cleary, the only reason she was fired was for being too good-looking. She seems almost as sane as that Octo-mom lady.
bros icing bros deleted
Feel free to continue icing your bros, but do so knowing that there will no longer be a central website to go online and share your experiences.
south carolina mystery candidate
So, who exactly is this mystery candidate for the Democratic party seeking election to the US Senate in South Carolina? Well, if I knew, it wouldn't be much of a mystery, would it?
man captures alligator in parking lot
I know, I know, sounds cool, but the alligator was like a midget alligator. I've caught alligators bigger than that with a blindfold on…the alligator had the blindfold on, not me.

Come on, man! I'm sure everyone and their brother has a Kobe Bryant jersey these days. Be an original...be the first person ever to buy a Pau Gasol jersey.

June 17, 2010 - Crouching Tiger, Hidden Phil

us open pebble beach
The US Open golf championship gets underway today, and we have heard surprisingly little about the artist formerly known as Tiger, who once dominated the same tournament at the same venue just 10 years ago. Oh, how things have changed since then, as it appears people even like Phil Mickelson more than Tiger these days.
spain upset by swiss
I don't know if there is officially a jinx that goes along with being the pre-tournament betting favorite in the World Cup, but it appears there may be this year. The Spanish team, widely considered one of the best in the tourney, lost their opening match at the hands of a country that generally specializes in small knives, cheese with holes and hot chocolate.
bp 20 billion compensation fund
It was another busy day in oil spill-land, with BP execs getting drilled in Washington, announcing that they would start an oil spill compensation fund of $20 bil, suspend their dividend, and generally try to make the public think they are good people. However, all that goodwill was essentially lost when a BP chairman referred to all the people hurt by the spill as "small people." Apparently, he was under the impression that everyone that lived in the Gulf Coast area were midgets.
lakers celtics game 7
Lakers. Celtics. NBA Finals. Game 7. What else is there to say. Well, I could tell you that this isn't exactly Larry vs. Magic any more, and this series isn't exactly a matchup of the best Lakers or Celtics squads of all time, but that might ruin tonight's game for you...so I'll just keep quiet.
bin laden hunter mentally ill
So, that long-haired, goofy-looking redneck-type dude that has spent the past 9 years searching the world for Osama bin Laden all on his own may be mentally ill. All you needed to know to figure that out was that he was apprehended carrying the following: a pistol, a sword, night-vision equipment and Christian religious books. Basically, all the ingredients needed for insanity.

police officer punches jaywalker
If you can watch this video, and personally overlook any possible racial issues involved in this incident, then you, my friend, are truly post-racial, or a gigantic liar.
dutch minidress world cup controversy
A bunch of chicks in South Africa have been charged with something called "ambush marketing" for showing up at a World Cup game dressed in orange minidresses to promote a Dutch beer. In America, they would have walked away with a simple charge of "being incredibly awesome."
schools discourage bff's
Yo, cliques are no good, meaning BFF's are so 5 years ago. Schools still encourage LOL and OMG, but keep it to yourself.
cab driver demands tip
What's the better part of this story? The cabbie going to extremes to get a $3 tip, or the lady staying locked in the cab for half an hour refusing to pay that $3 tip. Call me crazy, but I may side with the cabbie in this one.
man killed by bees
If you've seen the movie My Girl then you know how dangerous bees can be. If not, here is your personal reminder.

Buy this version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour golf...because, who knows, next year, it might be Phil Mickelson PGA Tour golf '12.
