January 15-16, 2011 - fresh weekend HERO SONG knowledge

If you want me to be deadly serious with you, I don't know where this idea came from exactly, but it came to me very randomly the other day. I decided to compile a list of the best songs revolving around the word hero. Now, it is up to you to decide which is the best hero song of all time. Use whatever criteria you deem appropriate, and keep searching for that hero (unless you are a Sarah Palin fan, in which case you've already found Her.)
Nas - Hero
We kick off the hero theme with a little hip-hop vibe hiding a desperate plea for a hero.

Mariah Carey - Hero
We can only assume when Mariah sang this song back in the early 1990's, she was anticipating that Nick Cannon would come along some 15 years later.

Bonnie Tyler - I Need A Hero
Listen, we all need heros, but this chick may have had it right. I mean, I guess singing about your need of a hero to an uptempo 80's beat can't be any worse than just straight begging.

Metallica - Hero of the Day
Well, I guess if you can get a hero for just a day, then that's better than not having a hero at all.

Enrique Iglesias - Hero
Enrique, can you really be our hero, or are you just saying this in a Latin Lover attempt to get us in bed. It did work on Anna Kournikova…

Bette Midler - Wind Beneath My Wings
Wait, wait, so it turns out, this whole time I was your hero? No, I'll be honest, I did not know that. I had no idea.

Foo Fighters - My Hero
There goes your hero? Where is he going? Didn’t you hear what we've been talking about this whole time? We need a hero. See if you can get him to come back.

  1. Enrique is hot, Bette makes me want to vomit, I don't like Mariah's song, don't know the others, so Bonnie wins, baby! :D

  3. Gotta go with Foo Fighters on this one, but I'll be honest, as long as Bette Midler doesn't win I'll be okay. Like her, but the song? Way too overdone and sappy. Plus she stole it from another singer.

  4. Of the songs listed, I'm going with Bonnie Tyler.

But, there's one that didn't make the cut that I'd sooner endorse.

    "Heroes" by David Bowie.

Also, if "Wind Beneath My Wings" made the list, I'd also pull for Peter Cetera's "Glory of Love." Because he is a man who will fight for my honor. He'll be the hero that I'm dreaming of...

There are also two anti-hero songs that I'd throw into the mix:

"Hero Takes a Fall" by The Bangles

"Billy, Don't Be a Hero" by Bo Donaldson

  5. Sorry Konnie, would have voted but not enough Black Grape :(

    Jesus was a black man
    No, Jesus was Batman
No - that was Bruce Wayne...
