Really Short Story: John Edwards' better (former) half faces some not-so-good news.
Short Story: Today, it's another sad story out of North Carolina involving former Senator John Edwards, only this time it doesn't involve a failed Presidential run or a bizarre cheating scandal. It's actually almost sad that we have to acknowledge those stories as we find out that Edwards' estranged wife Elizabeth will be foregoing any further cancer treatments. This likely means that Edwards, who has seen the death of her son, the birth of 2 children after the age of 48, a breast cancer diagnosis, and a bizarre scandal involving her former husband's infidelity, all after a successful law career of her own, has very little time left in her battle against breast cancer. larry bird
December 7, 2010: larry bird Day! - Best white basketball player ever was obviously known for being a great shooter and incredibly cerebral.
WHY?: Larry Joe Bird was known as "The Hick from French Lick," but I bet you didn't know that he was actually born in a place called West Baden, Indiana. Although, I imagine it was just as farm country-ish as French Lick, but without a clever nickname to rhyme with. He grew up in a very poor family with an alcoholic father who committed suicide when Larry was in college. However, he went on to earn a scholarship from the famed Indiana University basketball program, where he attended for 24 days before dropping out. A year later, he went on to Indiana State, and the rest is history, which if you don't already know, you probably never will. The only other factoid I will drop on you is that "Larry Legend," another cool nickname, was married for 11 months in 1977, and may or may not have fathered a child during this time.
